Sunflower Land – Beginners FAQ

New Players Guide
Newbie FAQ
Is it still okay to start here? How long has the game been out?
Yes, it’s definitely still okay to start here. The revamped skill tree is a big help, making farming easier for players and allowing them to choose their own specializations. The game has been out for three years, and development is still ongoing.
Is earning good here? How do you make money?
It’s not a quick way to earn money. You need to understand the trends and economy of the game first. As a new player, the focus isn’t on making a profit. Prioritize leveling up and expanding first.
How do you level up? What’s good to cook?
On Basic Island, the default season is Spring, so the crops you can plant are limited. Because of that, the available dishes are limited. Just eat a lot of Rhubarb Tart, Reindeer Carrot, and Bumpkin Broth. Once you unlock Tofu, you can also start making Fried Tofu.
Leveling up is difficult and boring. How do you rush levels?
It’s difficult to save up coins at first. Focus your skills on crop yield bonuses and coin profit boosts.
For starters, I suggest taking these skills to have an easy farming experience early on.
- Lvl 1 – Munching Mastery (T1 Cooking)
- Lvl 2-4 – Young Farmer, Experienced Farmer, Green Thumb (T1 Crops)
- Lvl 5-6 – Coin Swindler (T2 Crops)
- Lvl 7-8 – Golden Sunflower (T2 Crops) or Betty’s Friend + Chonky Scarecrow (T1 Crops)
- Lvl 9-11 – Hectare Farm (T3 Crops)
Take note that this is a specialization in Basic and Medium Crops.
Crops and trees take too long to grow. What else can I do?
- Fishing
- Digging
- Deliveries
- Weekly Chores
- Chapter Competition
- Faction Deliveries
- Portal Games
- Potion House
Focus on the core gameplay when starting out to make your farm productive faster—Farming, Cooking, and Expanding. The best option from that list is Coin Deliveries to earn extra coins. Portal Games can be found in the Kingdom area. You can earn Marks daily by reaching the target score for each game.
I’ve leveled up quite a bit and expanded my farm all the way. What happens next?
There’s a goblin on the right side of your farm. You can talk to him to move to the next island (Prestige). But before moving, make sure you have enough level and resources to expand because once you transfer to Spring Island, your farm will shrink again.
What happens to my items when I prestige?
You will keep all your items (buildings, trees, minerals like stone, iron, and gold), which you can find in your inventory or the basket icon on the right side. You just need to place them back on your farm.
What’s in Spring Island?
Every time you move to a new island, there’s a new gameplay feature. In Spring Island, you can unlock fruits, flowers, and honey. This is also a great time to build a Hen House to raise chickens.
Why do I need to move to Spring Island before building a Hen House?
Animals now have a sickness feature. Higher level = Higher chance of getting sick. Crafting a cure needs 5 lemons and 3 honey. That’s why it’s best to have your own supply before raising chickens. Hen House is also quite expensive to build. It would be much better to focus on expanding in Spring Island a little more before getting it.
How do you take care of chickens?
The type of feed chickens need depends on their level, so always be prepared with Corn, Wheat, and Barley—these are the grains used to make feed.
How about flowers? How do they work?
Simply select a seed and combine it with a crop or flower. As they are growing, honey will fill slowly on the beehive. Collect it ehen it is full to have a 10% chance of getting a bee swarm (+0.2 yield to all active crop plots).
I cut all trees and one spawned due to the skill. It didn’t give me the new amount, is this normal?
- Chop trees (or mine stone, etc.) and get the loot.
- Next set of loot is now determined.
- You place your SFT to boost wood (or whatever we’re talking about).
- Chop trees again to get loot, but the loot was already determined in step 2 so the SFT you placed in step 3 doesn’t work.
- Next set of loot is now determined with the SFT you placed in step 3.
- Chop trees to get loot with the SFT you placed in step 3.
Whats the difference between fire pit and kitchen?
In essence, there’s no difference; both are buildings where you cook food. However, the type of food that you can cook in each of them is different.
But is it still better to craft kitchen?
- At some point, you’ll have to have all the cooking buildings.
- One reason – you’ll join a faction, and to enjoy the faction XP bonus, you’ll have to donate 1 of each of the 3 foods for that week.
- Some weeks there will be foods from the Bakery or the Deli, or the Kitchen.
- My faction this week has foods from Fire Pit, Kitchen, and Smoothie Shack – if I didn’t have one of those, I couldn’t become a Contributing Member.
- Another reason that it’s good – there are some expensive foods (at lower levels) that give a lot of XP.
- And if I want to level up faster, I can cook at 3-4 buildings at the same time, foods like Margherita, Spaghetti, and Lemon Cheesecake.
- If you’re very low level, you maybe don’t need the kitchen just yet; maybe it would be better to focus on some boost than a building – it will be easier to build the building with a boost than the other way around.
Factions
There are 4 factions: Goblins, Sunflorians, Nightshades, and Bumpkins.
- You can join any of them for a one-time fee.
- The fee depends on our ranking from last week – top faction is, I think, 50 SFL, then 30, 10, and 5, something like that.
- Once you’re in a faction, you can donate food and other stuff, and you earn Marks.
- You can also buy Emblems that give you boosts for those Marks.
- Anyway, the food – if your faction reaches the weekly goal, they get a 10% XP boost for all its members.
- If you keep reaching goals, every 2 weeks that boost grows, to 20%, then 30%, and finally 50%.
- As I understood, some factions never reached week 8, the 50% boost, especially because it’s harder for bigger factions (the goal depends on the number of members).
- Don’t worry about that just now; I didn’t join a faction until lvl 25 or something.
- And the whole faction system is going to get reworked (it’s currently in the process of being remodeled).
- But it’s nice to take a look at potential future goals.
- XP boost of 30% or 50% is huge when you consider that an NFT with 5% boost (Observatory) costs 150 SFL.
Economics
The economy is pretty complex now, it’s hard to explain every component of it, but I’ll give it a try. SFL can only be attained by delivering resources/food to some NPCs (mainly in the Retreat), selling resources in the P2P market or Goblin Exchange, by placing in the top 25 in the faction leaderboard, in competitions (there’s one about to end now although the SFL prize has not been revealed) and I might be forgetting some other method (also new island coming soon will give a new way to earn SFL I think).
Instead of explaining crafting, I will give a brief rundown of the game loop, however pretty simplified:
- You plan crops, fruits, chop trees, mine resources, catch fish, feed animals.
- Those products can then be sold (some can’t be sold, like oil and fish), turned into buildings (for animals, cooking etc.), used in expanding your island (this will give you more plots to plant, more resources to mine, etc).
- Cooking food is a key feature as it gives you XP (raw fish also gives you XP) which will increase your bumpkin level, which in turn makes stuff in the game available and also gives you skill points to make the game loop easier (time reductions, more products, etc.) – A new skill revamp should release soon which will make leveling that much more important.
- Chapters, previously referred to as Seasons, are part of the game where new content is introduced with new SFTs (boosts and decorations) available in auctions (you compete with other players) or in the Stella Megastore.
Fruits & Flowers
Fruits: You will routinely sell them for SFL, and the once-a-month moon fruits would cover any fruit-related coins for the month, making that SFL basically just a time investment that you don’t use elsewhere.
Flowers: You have flowers and beehives tied together, producing honey (either to use in foods, medicine for animals, or selling for SFL) as well as having the flowers for bounties, chores, and gifting NPCs to work towards things like keys for chests.
I see fruits as a steady income, fairly predictable, easier to keep up with the mental accounting despite the options changing between the seasons. Flowers are a lot more of a gamble, working towards those keys for chests. My mental math rates it lower, but that’s not even napkin math level of tracking, so it very well could be much better value.
